About the FHSE

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences.
People from across 20 disciplines are working within the
Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed. The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society.

Your role

The PhD candidate will be associated with the Institute for Teaching and Learning, Department of Education and Social Work at the University of Luxembourg. The person will be part of a team in the dynamic organizational context of a growing, globally connected research university.

The doctoral candidate will work with Assist. Prof. Potheini Vaiouli on topics related to the processes of learning and teaching of all young learners. Potential candidates have an MA in education (or related fields) and are highly motivated to contribute to the national, international and comparative knowledge base in the areas of inclusive pedagogies, learning and engagement in early childhood, music and young children’s academic and socio-emotional development, pedagogy of care and musical care, and teacher professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent work on developing a PhD project situated in one or combining several key areas mentioned
  • Collaboration and support of general activities in the above-mentioned academic subject areas
  • Contribute to ongoing research projects in the educational sciences
  • Network with local and international stakeholders
  • Assist in organizing academic events and outreach events
  • Participate in the wider academic community through conference and workshop participation
  • Teach and assist in undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Publish research outcomes in peer-reviewed venues

 

Your profile
  • MA or equivalent in Educational Sciences, preferably with reference to one of the following subject areas: early childhood, music education, inclusive education, music psychology, or other relevant disciplines
  • Experience in academic research and command of quantitative and / or qualitative empirical methods; openness to mixed methods research
  • Readiness to collaborate with local and international stakeholders and in outreach activities
  • Demonstrated teaching experience
  • Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines and a positive, proactive attitude to balance research, teaching and administrative activities
  • Fluency in English is required; German, Luxembourgish and / or French will be considered an asset
