The Institute for Biomedical Informatics (BI-K), in collaboration with the Medical Data Integration Center (MeDIC), provides an excellent setting to develop and apply a data-driven medicine agenda. In this position, you will gain experience as part of a medical care setting and apply novel ideas in an agile and innovative environment.

You will:

  • be involved in innovative, interdisciplinary research projects addressing key challenges in the biomedical field
  • have the opportunity to work closely with outstanding experts in medicine and computer science, utilising medical data in a realworld health setting
  • work together with clinics to develop and implement strategies to improve data-driven decision- making in their daily practice and research

Your tasks

  • Leverage real-world health data by pursuing research within our Medical Data Integration Center to enhance methods for collecting high-quality, relevant data and ensuring it is delivered at the right time, to the right person, via the right interfaces
  • Set a living lab concept to stimulate user-driven innovation to develop, demonstrate, test and validate innovative methods, tools and technologies in a real health care setting
  • Contribute to the standardisation activities, and be responsible for the implementation of them in our data centers and data science practices
  • Bridge the gap between informatics and clinics by closely collaborating with clinics and translational research centres to understand their needs and identify opportunities for data-driven medicine
  • Fostering innovative ideas and their implementations in our interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder research activities
  • Engage with key stakeholders within hospital, national, and international networks to strengthen medical informatics and lead interoperability for reusable health data
  • Mentor medical students and informatics thesis in their doctoral degrees, and contribute to teaching activities
  • Support research fund acquisition by bringing your own ideas and by communicating in national and international networks

Your profile

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Data Science or in a related field
  • Self-motivated, outcome-oriented, committed personality
  • Outstanding research skills, project management skills, and resource planning skills to execute all project stages from conceptualisation of new ideas to putting them into practice
  • Solid background in medical informatics, including interoperability, data processing and AI
  • Good understanding of novel data-driven technologies
  • Prior experience in biomedical data or medical information fields
  • Strong analytical abilities and experience in interdisciplinary research
  • Having a positive mindset for collaborations and a motivation for continuous self-improvement and learning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present at conferences and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and publish research outcomes
  • Fluent in German and English
