The Third Institute of Physics – Biophysics – at the Georg August University Göttingen is look-ing to fill a
PhD position in physics (all genders welcome)
on the topic: Coherent fluctuation imaging for studying cellular organization
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a collaborative research project between the Georg August University Göttingen and Academia Sinica, Taipei. The project aims to develop a novel super-resolution microscopy technique that combines the benefits of fluorescence and label-free imaging.
The successful candidate will work on integrating dynamic light scattering with image scanning microscopy to achieve high-resolution, high-contrast imaging of intracellular structures without traditional labeling constraints. Applicants should have a strong background in physics, optics, or biophysics and an interest in developing cuttingedge computational imaging algorithms. Ideally, the candidate has a background in programming with MATLAB, Mathematica and Python. Proficiency in English is required. You will benefit from an international research environment and state-of-the-art infrastructure in both Germany and Taiwan. The Göttingen group offers a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment—an excellent setting for developing a career in biophysics at the interface of nanoscience and cellular biology.
The position is offered for 3 years (start: April 1st, 2026). The work time is a part-time posi-tion (75 % full position, 29.85 hours per week), and salary will be paid according to the German tariff TV-L E13.
The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular empha-sis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply in fields in which they are under-represented. The University has com-mitted itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports their employees in balancing work and family life. The mission of the University is to employ a greater number of severely disabled persons. Applications from severely disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
